About Fort Dee

Fort Dee is a research-led organisation exploring immersive and virtual production technologies and their application within heritage, folklore and place-based storytelling.

The organisation was formed to support long-term research and experimentation outside of commercial production cycles, allowing space to investigate how emerging technologies can be used to engage with cultural memory, local histories and lived environments.

Fort Dee’s work is rooted in place, with a particular focus on Scotland and the cultural, social and folkloric contexts that shape its landscapes and communities. Research is informed by site-specific engagement, archival material and collaboration with local practitioners and institutions.

Working across documentary filmmaking, virtual production and immersive media, Fort Dee approaches technology as a tool for enquiry rather than spectacle. Processes are often iterative and experimental, with projects developed through testing, observation and reflection rather than fixed outcomes.

Fort Dee is led by artists and filmmakers working across moving image and emerging digital practices, collaborating with artists, technologists and researchers on a project-by-project basis.

Fort Dee operates independently while engaging with cultural, academic and research partners through project-based collaboration.

Based in Dundee, Scotland.
